Q&A after Megrez testnet launched one week

Since the launch of the Megrez testnet on 2022 April 2, a large number of users have actively participated in the test and discussion. Now, a Q&A summary for the common questions encountered by the participants in the last week is made.

1.How many roles can each participant create?

Technically, each participant can create both User and Provider roles, but there will be some root directory and port distinction issues. As a first-time user, it is recommended to create only one role firstly. After you are familiar with the role startup process and the meaning of each startup parameter, you can customize the parameters to try to start multiple roles.

2.Where is the entrance to the MEMO program?

MEMO currently uses the command line language to execute testnet registration process, there are two ways to execute the command line:

(1)If you are a Linux user, you can directly start executing the program after downloading Docker.

(2)If you are a Windows user, you need to download Docker and open the Docker, then right-click “Start” in the lower left corner to open “Windows PowerShell”, where all subsequent operation command line will be entered and executed.

3. What is the difference between MEMO and IPFS?

MEMO has a significant difference in terms of vision and system architecture than IPFS. MEMO is a decentralized cloud storage protocol based on blockchain. Its vision is to create a safer and more reliable storage network. The vision of IPFS is to create a more open network, focusing on transmission rather than storage data. The following figure shows some differences between MEFS (MEmo File System) and IPFS:

4.How to check account balance?

Method 1:

Enter the test chain browser: https://testscan.metamemo.one:8080/

You can check the account balance by pasting the wallet address into the search box in the upper right corner. There are two account balances:

Balance: Test chain token (ABBAS) balance, used for transaction overhead when starting a node

Tokens: Major Token (MEMO) balance, used to pay for storage services and staking

Method 2:

Refer to WIKI and enter the container, and then run the command line to view all the information of the node, including account balance.

1. After the account is initialized, start the node and enter the container. Run the command line “mefs-user info” or “mefs-provider info” to check the account balance.

2. If the account has been started, and then the computer has been shutted down, Docker, or “Windows PowerShell” was been closed, you need to restart MEMO again to check the balance. Specifically, you need to open Docker first, then run the command line “ docker start mefs-user” using Windows Powershell to start, and then enter the container to check it through the command line”mefs-user info” or “mefs-provider info”.

5.Why are there two commands in some operations on official website’s DOC? Which one should be implemented?

If there are two commands, the first one is the format command line without modifying the parameters, and the second one is the specific example we provide for your reference.

Therefore, we recommend participants to copy the example command line directly, and then modify the root directory and password, and all other items remain default.

In the coming future, we will continuously optimize the operation process, and only leave the example command line and related parameter explanations.

6.As a provider, after startup, there is balance, but the TOKEN is showed as 0. What is going on?

The Provider role registration requires a pledge, but the pledge operation is automatically completed during the startup process. If you query through the browser, the account balance represents the overall balance (including pledged one), and the Token represents the amount available for a pledge. If the token is 0, that means the pledge operation has been performed.

In response to the above questions, we are optimizing the relevant processes and operations to present it to all the participants in a more concise and understandable way. Stay tuned and we will notify you in time after the update.

7.There are two forms of User startup, with and without a gateway. What are the specific differences?

We will adopt the startup with a gateway by default, and we will further optimize the relevant commands given on the official website.
