No command line, no Docker, the minimalist installer for User goes live

MEMO went live with the Megrez Version some time ago and opened the public test network with a large number of users actively participating and giving feedback.

The most frequent question asked was about the registration and activation of the User role. The operation mode based on the command line with Docker can be difficult for users without computer expertise.

In order to lower the threshold for participation and improve the user experience, the Memolabs technical team has developed a client installer for Windows that packages and optimizes the registration and startup procedures of User. The new client installer greatly optimizes the User startup process compared to the previous command line operation mode.

What has been optimized?

1、 No command line

No command line input is involved and all installation and startup are visual operations . New users only need to follow the instruction document to generate a wallet by following the corresponding registration procedure, then follow the top-up procedure to complete the wallet top-up and finally execute the installation procedure to complete. Once the installation is complete, a start and stop shortcut will be automatically generated on the desktop and the node can be started and stopped with a double-click.

2、No Docker

Since there is no command line operation and the User launch program no longer relies on the Docker environment, the process of installing Docker is omitted and the process is simpler.

3、Better visualization with the web-side page

At the same time, the team has developed a web-side operation page. After completing the registration and startup process, users can enter the web page to do some operations such as creating buckets, uploading and downloading, which are easier to operate and more visualized.

In addition, based on feedback from previous tests, we have upgraded and optimized the node network for transmission speed, and the transmission speed has also been improved compared to the previous one. The public beta version of Megrez Version is currently open to users for free. Click to experience the decentralized storage service in the Web 3.0 world.

Participation steps

The new client program and operation guide are also available on the official website. It only takes a few steps to set up an account and start the network. Feel free to experience and make suggestions for optimization.

The registration and startup process can be summarized in the following 4 steps:

  1. Open the official website and download the User client installation package
  2. Unzip the installation package and follow the instructions to complete the three steps: create the wallet, top up the wallet and install the launch program. Once completed, start and stop the node via the start/stop shortcut generated on your desktop.

Please email us for top-up

Note: The wallet creation directory and the launch program installation directory must be the same

3. Start and stop user nodes via the shortcuts automatically generated on the desktop.

4. Log in to the User Web to perform file operations. The login address is displayed at the end of the installation document. The login account and password are recorded in the account file in the installation directory and can be viewed by yourself.

For detailed registration and startup instructions, please refer to the official website guide at:

Note: This version does not replace the command line mode of operation

The main purpose of releasing this version is to lower the threshold for User participation and to enhance the experience while keeping the network smooth and node resources abundant, as MEMO has been working to create a large-scale decentralized storage network that allows more people to participate. It should be noted, however, that this release is only intended to facilitate getting more people in the door of decentralized storage, but it does not replace the command line method of operation.

Compared with the command line operation mode, this version can meet the basic operational requirements of registration, startup, file uploading and downloading, and some parameters are also automatically set to default values: default encryption, default unified erasure code strategy, so this version is as secure and reliable as the command line mode of operation, but lacks some personalized parameter setting functions.

We recommend that users involved in the User role use this simple startup version first and then try to set their own personalized parameters using the command line once they are familiar with how the MEMO protocol works and the command line language.
